Championship recap
Strike This Storm Back From 0–2 To Repeat As Champions
Down two games to none and giving up 86 pins of handicap each game, Strike This won three straight to take the best-of-five series 3–2 and win their second straight championship at Parkway Bowl.
Kingpins looked in control early, and Joshua and Derek played really well all night. Game 1 came down to the 10th frame. Strike This led by 10 pins going into it, but Andrew and Mike both left their 10th frames open. Surprisingly, it was Kingpins who came up clutch and closed their frames out. Joshua and Derek each shot 193 with handicap, and the team's 386 beat Strike This's 376. Derek's 224 in game 2 (167 scratch) pushed the total to 408 against 378, and Kingpins led 2–0.
On the brink of elimination, Game 3 wasn't Strike This's best. Andrew and Mike's 344 on scratch was their lowest team game of the night. But Kingpins failed to shut the door and gave the defending champions some life. Derek dropped to a 112 scratch game, and the team's 355 with handicap fell 15 pins short of Strike This's 370. Strike This took advantage of their opportunity and won game 4 by 33 pins, 390 to 357, and the series was tied 2–2.
Game 5 settled it, and it was a great game from both teams. Joshua (204 with handicap) and Derek (203) were at their best together, bowling 149 and 146 scratch for a team total of 407. On any other night that would likely have been enough. But Andrew started the game with a turkey and finished it with five straight strikes to seal the deal. His 225 scratch game (237 with handicap) was the best of the night, and Mike added 199 (213 with handicap) to put icing on the cake and secure the championship. Strike This's team total was 450 against 407, a 43-pin win with handicap.
Kingpins never stopped fighting and gave the crowd a show, but the champions showed grit, and their experience prevailed when it counted.
Handicap scores, Strike This vs Kingpins: 376–386, 378–408, 370–355, 390–357, 450–407.
